Ministry to Families and Children

Ministry to Families and Children

Since 2000 the Institute has offered a training program for childrens ministry workers. This program was created with the help of Peggy Laney and MTEE. Leaders from over 20 churches from different regions of Ukraine have been involved in a long-term training program to improve their qualification significantly through topical seminars held by the Institute. Through a seven year process, participants developed a program of training for childrens ministry that ultimately resulted in the publication of a textbook called Overseeing Childrens Ministry. Trained leaders from this program have traveled throughout Ukraine, Russia and Moldova, teaching the Institutes Childrens Ministry course and conducting training seminars for church childrens ministry workers.

The importance of the family

The family is the primary unit created by God! It was family that God blessed to be fruitful and multiply, to rule and have dominion over earth. The whole Old Testament history is impossible without families: Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Rachel.

The last verse in the Old Testament is a prophecy about changes needed in the family to prepare for Christs advent. The same condition is fundamental in preparation for the second coming of the Lord. The New Testament begins with the story of two godly families and ends with the marriage of the Bride and the Lamb.

According to Gods design, the family is a vessel in which conception, birth, nurture and upbringing of a person takes place. This all happens in cooperation with God, for His glory and to the joy of the parents.

What do we have today?

Young men, fathers and males in general are in disastrous condition in the former Soviet Union. The state of the hearts of girls, wives and mothers is no better. The older people are disillusioned, sick and very often lonely.

There are divorces "happening" in churches more and more often. It hurts to write about it, but we cannot be silent about the fact that in the years to come things will turn for the worse and not for the better. The church, being light, salt and sweet aroma, is responsible for the spiritual and moral climate in the society. Do we foresee the problem and prepare for hard times or do we simply go with the flow just like everybody else?

What do we have to do?

  • To renew, to strengthen and to bring back to life the families that already exist.
  • To teach young people in the basics of creating strong families.
  • To teach parents the art of raising children.
  • To prepare competent married couples, experienced in solving family problems (including their own) to serve the society.
  • To learn to create small groups for fathers, families and children.
  • To hold camps for children, young people and families.
